What Happened:
Today we launched our motors with the freshmen class from the fish bowl. When we launched ours, it first had a big burst, then it started to burn slowly and eventually went out. It worked like it was supposed to so I was happy when it finally payed off. The video wouldn't fit in my post.
What's the Science:
Since we used sugar potassium nitrate as our fuel, there was a lot of smoke. The smoke was a white color but I learned that you could color the smoke which I would be interested in doing later. Our motor also had a wider spark emitting out of it because we used a core burner instead of an end burner. An end burner would have had a more slim spark coming out of it.
Results:
I'm really happy with my results, especially with this project because I have had NO experience with rockets and rocket motors. I think if you just follow directions and get help from your peers, you could build anything. It burned for a decent amount of time, I think Nick contributed the most because he knew the most about rockets.
Collaboration:
I've been working with Lupe, Madi, and Nick. They are all very resourceful people but I feel Nick is the most familiar. In the time of the year that we're in, I've worked with all of them and we all work pretty well together.
What Next:
Next we will be timing our rocket motors and how long the burn lasts. I'm not quite sure what we'll do after.
